Story
Hi!
I’m taking on the Tour de Brisbane to raise funds for The Prince Charles Hospital Foundation, supporting life-changing organ transplantation research.
As a recipient myself of 2 donor corneas, I am keenly aware of the life-changing impact that organ transplantation can have and how it can offer people a second chance at life.
When I received my first transplant, I was told that the average lifespan was approximately 15 years, and currently, 18 years later, the transplant remains stable through improved care techniques. My 2nd transplant 15 years ago, was a different kind of transplant (Partial Thickness Cornea Transplant), designed to reduce risk of rejection, and effectively double the life span of the donor cornea.
What this highlighted for me was that for ongoing success across all transplants, is that Research is the key!
Research that focuses on:
Increasing the number of viable organs available for transplant.
Reducing rejection rates.
Minimising post-transplant complications.
Your donation will directly help people whose only hope is a transplant, giving them the chance to overcome serious health challenges and live full, meaningful lives.
Thank you for supporting my efforts with a donation!
